Names of hans

The inscription plaques of hans never specify the exact name of the han. Their current names must have evolved over time, perhaps named after a local tradition, the memory of a long-lost recollection, or a nearby natural site, town or village.

Some were named in reference to their patron (Hatun, Hekim, Horozlu, Sadeddin, Karatay, Ertokuş) or the color of their building materials (Kizilören, Sari, Ak, Akbaş), or for a natural or local tradition (Incir, Kuruçeşme, Zincirli, Eli-kesik).
