The Seljuk Han of Anatolia
Names of hans
The inscriptions of the hans never mention a specific name for the han. We can thus infer that the names that we now know must have come at a later date, perhaps from a local tradition, the memory of a long-lost recollection, a nearby local site, or after a local town or village nearby.
Some were named in reference to their patron (Hatun, Hekim, Horozlu, Sadeddin,
Karatay, Ertokuş) or the color of their building materials (Kizilören, Sari, Ak,
Akbaş), or for a natural or local tradition (Incir, Kuruçeşme, Zincirli,
Elikesik).
